The Symphonic Pops Orchestra of Chicago is an ensemble of 40 of the finest studio musicians and members of major symphony, opera, and ballet orchestras - - - plus engaging vocalists who are show-oriented, versatile professionals and genuine crowd pleasers. Under the direction of Frank Winkler, the Symphonic Pops Orchestra delivers, time after time, exciting arrangements of light classics and the biggest hits from Broadway and Hollywood. Winkler’s approach is an effective one - - - he chooses music that audiences of all ages can recognize. Frank Winkler and the Symphonic Pops Orchestra perform with enthusiasm, style, and impeccable showmanship, bringing pleasure and excitement to each and every selection. The result - - - happy audiences who come back again and again. In the Fall of 2000, the Symphonic Pops Orchestra of Chicago toured Taiwan, played to packed auditoriums, and received rave reviews. Performances form the Taiwan tour were recorded, re-mastered, and are now available on CD. The Excitement of Broadway & Hollywood features themes and selections from Star Wars, Cats, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. 9/2004
SYMPHONIC POPS ORCHESTRA OF CHICAGO Featured Vocalists LISA BRUECK, Soprano Lisa Brueck is a Broadway singer extraordinaire whose charm and enthusiasm is totally infectious to all audiences. She has toured as Maggie in "Chorus Line", Crystal in "Little Shop of Horrors", and Louisa in "The Fantasticks". She specializes in the research and presentation of forgotten and lesser-known Broadway masterpieces, often presenting them in cabaret and recital settings. With her husband, Bryan (who has also performed frequently with the Symphonic Pops Orchestra), she owns and operates Ambience Entertainments, a company that provides singing-server concepts for restaurants. GIL OLIVA, Baritone Gil Oliva is a vocalist whose talent transcends the Broadway stage and nightclub performance. Among his many successes are his portrayals of Che Guevera in "Evita" and the title roles in "J.C. Superstar" and "The King and I". He has starred in "Harry Chapin - Lies & Legends", and "Pump Boys and Dinettes", both as an instrumentalist and lead vocalist. He has appeared with the DuPage Opera production of "The Secret Garden" and in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". In addition to his musical roles, he has been acknowledged as a consummate actor. Equally talented behind the scenes, he has been nominated and recognized for his scenic and lighting designs and his expertise in cable TV direction. |
