FRANK WINKLER, Conductor
Frank Winkler has achieved an extraordinary range of accomplishments as conductor, pianist, composer and arranger.
Maestro Winkler has conducted the Grant Park Symphony and the Orchestra of Illinois in Chicago. He is the founder of the Navy Pier Pops Orchestra, the New Vienna Ensemble, and the Symphonic Pops Orchestra of Chicago. He has toured extensively, conducting in the major cities of Europe. He directs the Emeritus Orchestra, the Emeritus String Ensemble, the Orchestra of the Music Institute of Chicago and the Harper Symphony Orchestra of Palatine.
As a pianist, Frank Winkler has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of the Royal English Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet. He performs regularly with the Tononi Ensemble and the Gold Coast Chamber Musicians. He has accompanied Kathleen Battle with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia and was the pianist for the World Premiere of The Opera of Malcolm X in Chicago’s Symphony Center. In addition to his classical engagements, he has performed with Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis, Jr., Buddy Rich, and Andrea Bocelli.
An accomplished composer and arranger, Mr. Winkler has written music for numerous National Radio Theater shows on the Public Broadcasting System. His film credits include a cameo appearance as the orchestra conductor in the movie Home Alone II.
He was honored in 1993 by the Dal Segno Music Society of Chicago as "Musician of the Year."
Mr. Winkler has recently returned from a series of highly acclaimed jazz concerts in Bombay, India.
